Croatia

While Croatia is far less known for its olive oil than neighboring Italy and nearby Greece, producers across the country are working together to promote high-quality extra virgin olive oil production. Similar efforts are underway on the northwestern Istrian peninsula. Dalmatia and Istria are responsible for virtually all of the country’s olive oil production. Behind these collective efforts is an ambition to promote native olive varieties, including the two most common, Oblica and Levantinka. Along with several Italian varieties, Istrian Bjelica, Istrian Buza and Krvavica olives are also commonly grown.
