Montenegro has a rich olive oil tradition, with olive groves planted over 2,000 years ago. Despite this history, production remains relatively small at around 500 tons annually. The indigenous Žutica olive, known for its golden oil and balanced flavor, dominates Montenegrin orchards. Traditional, small-scale farming is prevalent, though modern olive groves are emerging. Montenegro imports olive oil to meet domestic demand, but there's a growing focus on increasing production and capitalizing on the unique qualities of Montenegrin olive oil.
